Naruto manga is one of the most popular manga in the world. It has been published in more than 35 countries and translated into more than 50 languages. And with over 220 million volumes sold worldwide, you can’t deny that it’s a manga worth getting to know.

The manga series was created by Masashi Kishimoto for Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine on September 21, 1999. The manga follows Naruto Uzumaki, an adolescent ninja who constantly searches for recognition and dreams of becoming Hokage-the leader of his village-despite being ostracized due to his status as a jinchuriki (someone born with their natural energy having been sealed inside them). When Naruto graduates from the Ninja Academy at age 11 he’s assigned a special mission to guard a legendary priestess named Tsubaki. After defeating an S-rank rogue ninja who wants to take Tsubaki’s life, Naruto proves himself to be a strong and talented ninja, but is treated badly by everyone in his village because he holds the spirit of the Nine-Tailed Fox inside him. The manga follows Naruto’s adventures as he strives to become the best ninja in his village and train with his teammates Sasuke and Sakura.

It started airing on October 3, 2002, and ended on February 8, 2007, after 220 episodes. Naruto manga has also been adapted into nine anime films, with the tenth film to be released in August 2015.
